Westwood 4-H Program
Involvement in 4-H helps young people master skills needed to make career and life choices. 4-H provides research-based content to students, opportunities to learn by doing and access to a variety of programs. Westwood Senior 4-H Club (9th – 12th), Westwood Junior 4-H Club (6th – 8th), and Westwood Elementary 4-H Club (4th – 5th) are all part of Mitchell County 4-H and the University of Georgia 4-H Program. Monthly in-school 4-H meetings, consisting of officers running the business meeting and 4-H personnel teaching an educational lesson, are conducted. After school 4-H activities “bridge the gap” reinforcing what is taught in school with hands-on- learning teaching valuable life skills using fun techniques.
4-H’ers may choose activities such as: Livestock Projects, Performing Arts Competitions, Foods and Nutrition Competitions, Public Speaking, Leadership Classes, Camps, Project Achievement, Shooting Sports (Shotgun & Archery Teams) and Community/ Service Learning Projects. Many Westwood 4-H’ers have served on the District and State 4-H Board of Directors and have been selected to receive college scholarships because of their 4-H connection. Westwood 4-H members practice the 4-H motto of Learn By Doing while serving as outstanding ambassadors for Westwood and Mitchell County as they travel across Georgia!
