Once a year, high school students are selected by the electric cooperatives in Georgia to represent our state as delegates on the Washington Youth Tour. This top-notch leadership experience and tour of Washington, D.C., includes meetings with state and national leaders and leadership training, as well as visits to all the major sights. Participants join over 1,400 other students from around the nation—all expenses paid—for one incredible week in our nation’s capital.
The first activity is a statewide reception and dinner highlighting the achievements of Georgia delegates representing their electric co-ops on Thursday, June 7, 2018, in Atlanta. Before flying to Washington, D.C., delegates participate in team building activities and learn about leadership, cooperatives and the history of rural electrification.
Since 1964, the Washington Youth Tour has given more than 50,000 students representing 640 of America’s electric cooperatives the opportunity to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
